Putting Yukawa-like Modified Gravity (MOG) on the test in the Solar System

چکیده

We deal with a Yukawa-like long-range modified model of gravity (MOG) which recently allowed to successfully accommodate many astrophysical and cosmological features without resorting to dark matter. On Solar System scales MOG predicts retrograde secular precessions of the planetary longitudes of the perihelia ̟ whose existence has been put on the test here by taking the ratios of the estimated Pitjeva’s corrections to the standard Newtonian/Einsteinian perihelion precessions for different pairs of planets. It turns out that MOG, in the present form which turned out to be phenomenologically successful on astrophysical scales, is ruled out at more than 3σ level in the Solar System. If and when other teams of astronomers will independently estimate their own extraprecessions of the perihelia it will be possible to repeat such a test. Local stability criterion for self-gravitating disks in modified gravity

We study local stability of self-gravitating fluid and stellar disk in the context of modified gravity theories which predict a Yukawa-like term in the gravitational potential of a point mass. We investigate the effect of such a Yukawa-like term on the dynamics of self-gravitating disks. More specifically, we investigate the consequences of the presence of this term for the local stability of t...

Observationally Verifiable Predictions of Modified Gravity

MOG is a fully relativistic modified theory of gravity based on an action principle. The MOG field equations are exactly solvable numerically in two important cases. In the spherically symmetric, static case of a gravitating mass, the equations also admit an approximate solution that closely resembles the Reissner-Nordström metric. Furthermore, for weak gravitational fields, a Yukawa-type modif...

Constraints on the range λ of Yukawa-like modifications to the Newtonian inverse-square law of gravitation from Solar System plan- etary motions

In this paper we use the latest corrections of the secular perihelion rates of some planets of the Solar System, phenomenologically estimated with the EPM2004 ephemerides, to put severe constraints on the range parameter λ characterizing the Yukawa-like modifications of the Newtonian inverse-square law of gravitation. It turns out that the range cannot exceed about one tenth of an Astronomical ...

Testing Modified Gravity with Motion of Satellites around Galaxies

A modified gravity (MOG) theory, that has been successfully fitted to galaxy rotational velocity data, cluster data, the Bullet Cluster 1E0657-56 and cosmological observations, is fitted to the motion of satellite galaxies around host galaxies at distances 50-400 kpc providing a new sensitive test for MOG. We show that observational data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey are consistent with MOG...

Cosmological Observations in a Modified Theory of Gravity (MOG)

Our Modified Gravity Theory (MOG) is a gravitational theory without exotic dark matter, based on an action principle. MOG has been used successfully to model astrophysical phenomena, such as galaxy rotation curves, galaxy cluster masses and lensing. MOG may also be able to account for cosmological observations. We assume that the MOG point source solution can be used to describe extended distri...
